Hi All,

Just wanted to make contact with everyone and give an update for those who are following the activities of GC4Vets.

Recent events:

The Tax Credit For Veterans has passed and President Obama has signed the changes into law!!!

I hope everyone enjoyed Veterans Day, I sure had a lot of fun at the Swords To Plowshares Annual Veterans Day Dinner!!!

City College of San Francisco had a great event on the 21st. Maj. Gen. Myatt spoke to all of us Vets and I was there to announce GC4Vets programs for Veterans!!!

I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Thanks Giving Day!!! I sure had a lot fun having Thanks Giving Day dinner with the President of the Veterans Club at CCSF, Jack Jacoby!!! Ended the evening with a food coma to prove that it was an absolute success.

I have been meeting with Bauer’s IT and they are going to have a company representative meet with Veterans at City College of San Francisco. This is a program for Veterans who can’t handle to accelerated pace of the GI Bill.

Veterans can work and take only two classes and collect full BAH plus wages from Bauer’s. Bauer’s is starting Veterans at $15/hr plus medical and dental.
Still working with Cisco and others to iron contracts and deals where Veterans can be hired, I will keep you posted!!!

Upcoming events:

I will be attending The White House Christmas Reception in Washington DC very soon!!!

Detailed Report:

It appears that the Jobs Bill was finally signed and companies who hire Veterans get huge tax savings!!! This has been a long time coming and it will prove to make my negotiations with companies much easier. My hat goes off to the President for signing it and sealing the fate of all Veterans who will be searching for jobs in the future!!!

Damage Report:

Thanks to Morgane my health is much better than it was before and my pain has decreased thanks to acupuncture. I still am a long way from how my life was before the war, but at least I am not hurting as bad as before when I get out and cover the terrain that I have to cover in order to get jobs and careers for Veterans.

Financially, the damage is also taking it’s toll. My GI Bill benefits which help to subsidize my costs have been reduced by $1,000 per month and my mortgage has increased by $530 per month. I am considering taking some breaks and cutting back on operations. Using email, phone, and other means of getting work done.

Conclusion:

I would like to thank all the organizations that support me and work with me to help Veterans obtain resources like gas money, food money, money for tools, money for rent; groups like The Mission Continues, Project Hired, and Swords To Plowshares.
I would like to thank all the organization that support me and my Veterans; groups like Marine Corps League, AMVETS, Marine Corps Memorial, and the War Memorial Veteran organizations.

I would like to also thank great organizations like the EDD, Vet Centers, CVSO’s, VA, Vetsuccess, and many more organizations who are working to make sure Veterans succeed when they get out of the military.

Sincerely,

Short Announcements For Those On The Go:

It was a welcome call that I received from one of my Grunt Veterans the other night when he told me that he cleared $1,900 after taxes in one week. To have a warrior go from ducking bullets and shrapnel from grenades to working in a safe environment, doing honest manual labor, and making enough money to prosper in these times is exactly what GC4Vets stands for!!!

Congresswoman Speier held an awesome event at the South San Francisco Conference Center, every seat was filled and people were standing in the open spaces!!! Over 1,200 unemployed showed up that morning and more came in and out during the day!!! By the way, Virgin America was there and they need 3 aircraft mechanics with ANP certification. High starting pay!!!

The Campbell Veterans Memorial is underway!!! The brick laying ceremony was very inspiring and moving. Veterans packed the halls at the Campbell City Hall in downtown Campbell and Jim Free organized such a great event as Veterans were recognized and honored at a great occasion on Veterans Day!!!

On November 21st GC4Vets will be attending the City College of San Francisco’s Veterans Event along with keynote speaker Major General Myatt!!! At this event GC4Vets will be presenting the Bauer’s IT program as well other internship programs that have become available for Veterans.

Also added to the list of companies to see hiring Veterans in partnership with GC4Vets: HP, Google, Goldman Sachs, Virgin America, Facebook, and many more being added to the list. These companies are motivated to work with me and we are holding talks in the upcoming weeks. Each of these companies is looking to hire 120 Veterans in the program that we are offering.

Expect to see a recent PBS interview featuring me to be aired in the coming months. I will make an announcement when that program will be airing.

Detailed Announcements For Those On The Go:

This past week I have been busy with traveling and working on finding more jobs for Veterans. I had the opportunity to visit St. Louis Missouri to attend “The Mission Continues” Gala. Eric Greitens is a former Navy Seal who fought in the recent conflicts and now his organization is giving back to Veterans. Goldman Sachs now sponsors The Mission Continues to the tune of $6 Million dollars. For those of you on my Facebook you probably see me wearing a shirt that says “The Mission Continues” and that’s because I am a fellow. South West Airlines flew over 120 fellows to Missouri, at no cost, to attend the gala. Hotel accommodations were also at no cost to the fellows and fellows flew in from all parts of the country, Orlando, Chicago, Las Vegas, Colorado, Wyoming, New York, Boston, Dallas, San Diego, Phoenix, Los Angeles and the list goes on. Expect to see and hear more about The Mission Continues in the future as they expand throughout the country.

In the past two weeks I have been very busy meeting with the Diversity Officers from various companies to discuss hiring programs for Veterans. These talks have become very productive and will lead to more jobs in the future. If Cisco, Cisco’s Collaborative Partners, Google, HP, and many more companies join together we can see as many as 2,000 jobs created in the near term with an opportunity to scale to 20,000 per year. That is the goal of GC4Vets, to create a scalable model that can create thousands of jobs and hopefully we will eventually reach our goal of 100,000 jobs for Veterans.

The Job Hunters Boot Camp put on by Congresswoman Speier was an overwhelming success! One of the Veterans from City College of San Francisco was ambushed by Virgin America! We will be following his progress to track him and see how things go. More will follow on the successes at the Boot Camp.

The Campbell Veterans Memorial was an inspiring event and Jim Free has mustered many Veterans to converge on the City grounds in order to create a memorial that stands in honor of the fallen brothers and sisters from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. Please go their website to see the model and how the symbols of the monument are poetic and beautifully planned:

http://campbellveteransmemorial.org/

Please donate to this memorial and support this great effort to hold in remembrance our fallen brothers and sisters. If they were alive today we would be buying them drinks. Since we can’t do that for them now then donate that money that you would have given for their drinks and donate to purchase a brick in their honor. Thank you.

Bauers IT is hiring 20 Veterans from CCSF during the winter break, for Veterans on the GI Bill this is a great opportunity to make money during the break and, starting next Semester, to earn 4 units of credit towards the GI Bill!!!

Damage Report:

So far the largest drawback to my operations has been the fact that I am undermanned and understaffed. Since Morgane has joined the team the progress has really taken off. GC4Vets is accomplishing more and more each day. However it has taken it’s toll on my staff. We are two people doing the work of ten. Although the odds are better than before Morgane has reminded me that we cannot keep up with this pace for a prolonged period of time. In between meetings with Companies, meetings with Veterans, and meetings with Doctors I am barely able to handle my finances and keep up with my trading activities that have paid for over 75% of my mission expenses. Morgane has already cautioned time and time again that I need to hire more staff or slow down and cut my pace in half. On top of planning my day-to-day operations and advising me on my strategic options; my health needs and medical issues have particularly worn down Morgane. She is my right hand at this point and her recommendation is to start focusing on my health more. I am pursuing options to increase my staff and to reinforce my efforts so that GC4Vets can run on it’s own without me to micro manage many of the day-to-day affairs. When I focus on Veterans my work with the Corporations starts to fall behind, when I focus on Corporations then my relations with the Veterans starts to fall behind, and when I focus on my health then everything starts to fall behind. And then there is Morgane in the middle of it all trying to run damage control.

Conclusion:

I would like to thank all of you who have supported GC4Vets, for your advice, for your words of encouragement and prayers. I am trying my best to move as quickly as possible so that I can meet the needs of the many Veterans who are waiting for me to close the loops on these careers. Special thanks to The Mission Continues, Swords To Plowshares, Project Hired, HP, Chris Beveridge, Jim Free and many other patrons who assist GC4Vets in our mission.

Sincerely,

Clear Wall has officially trained 2 Veterans sufficiently in window film installation and now those Veterans who have completed the long and painstaking process are now making $300-$500 per day on Green Tech Retro Fitting; Great job guys!!! Cisco is hot on the trail of hiring 1,000 Veterans!!! More to come with 17 big companies who pay great salaries for hiring Veterans!!! More information on the internships!!!

Short Announcements For Those On The Go:

Great talks in progress with Cisco!!! Cisco is a wonderful company and they have openings for Veterans. We are currently working together on a project that will streamline the process of getting Veterans funneled from the CSU (California State University) system into their company. Also that pipeline will include Officers and Enlisted who are exiting from military service with Bachelors degrees in engineering, biotech, business and other technical specialties.

GC4Vets will soon be branching out to 17 of the Fortune 500 and Fortune 500 subsidiaries companies to replicate the process started with and by Cisco. Thanks to Cisco and Cisco’s partners we are working on a model that will generate thousands of jobs within the next 11 months.

Currently we are working on developing internships in partnership with Cisco. Once the details in this partnership are drawn up, agreed upon and finalized there will be more “paid internship” opportunities available for Veterans. Currently the NASA internship program is filled however we are currently in the process of working for some extra slots to be created. I will keep the Veterans posted on the progress of this work. If the Cisco internship can be finalized then that will open up more slots, so stay tuned.

Congresswoman Speier’s job event is taking place November 9th from 10am to 2pm. GC4Vets will have a table at the event and we look forward to meeting with all of the Veterans and explaining the programs that we have in place.

Please look at some of our current updates and changes to our website. Some of these changes include “the Wall of Fame” which highlights Veterans hired on successfully by our Corporate friends and partners. We also have some additions to our “Thank You’s” wall and also a new “event” highlighting the VA Home Loan Program for Veterans. There is also a new addition on the HOME tab and that’s the Women’s Veterans survey. If you are a woman Veteran please take some time to fill out the form at this link: http://gc4vets.org/contact-us/veteran-forms/calvet-women-veterans-survey/

Detailed Announcements For Those Who Have The Time:

The Window Film Project is taking some great steps forward. The Veterans hired on with Clear Wall are currently making $1 per square foot. Last Thursday they managed to install 3,500 square feet in one day with a crew of 7. With each person installing on average 300 to 700 square feet of window film, that means an average grunt trained up in window film can stand to make a decent living from this career. The Genentech Project is scheduled to last until January 15th. Currently GC4Vets is working to create more work projects and contracts to keep the Veterans and Clear Wall gainfully employed for the next decade and beyond. Currently we are working to secure base contracts for Clear Wall, Solar Control, and other Window Film companies in order to scale up the amount of Veterans who can be trained and employed in this industry. I will continue to keep you updated on the great work, taking place at Clear Wall.

Bauer’s IT is still taking some big strides forward to hire Veterans. We are currently in talks to have Bauer’s IT create a training school for Veterans to train and upgrade their licenses from class C to class B with passenger certification. This will take Veterans who have no experience with Buses or Veterans who drove personnel carriers in the military but didn’t receive any certificates and fast track those Veterans into a great paying career. Currently the salary range starts at $15 per hour plus medical and dental for drivers who drive the swing shift and $25 per hour plus medical and dental, for drivers who work the Day Shifts driving high value passengers from point A to point B. I will also keep you up to date on the progress of this program being put into action at this time. The advantage of the swing shift program is that Veterans going to school can use their job experience for 4 units of credit at school and then take an additional 8 units of class credit (one class on-site and one class online). Veterans can benefit from having both the GI Bill and a regular salary to pay for living expenses in the Bay Area.

For those who are interested in the internship program with NASA and Cisco here is a list of steps that need to be taken before you can participate in the program:

Step 1: Make sure that you are NOT a resident of Santa Clara County and that you have the proper requirements to participate in the program, listed below:

Step 2: Then next step is to go to this link: http://canadacollege.edu/veap/ and follow the instructions. It will tell you that the application time has passed but still fill out the online app and then email Chris Woo. His email is on the application.

Step 3: Contact GC4Vets if you have any questions or problems. Thanks

Currently Operation Long Arm is still in progress and we have made some headway into the CSU system and with local Community Colleges like CCSF as well. The CSU system has 8,000 active Veteran students and an additional 72,000 Veteran alumni with 4,000 alumni added to those numbers on a yearly basis. GC4Vets is tapping into this system to fill the 17,000 prospective positions that will be created by the Collaborative of Corporations and Companies who are trying to find Vets and employ them. If you are a Veteran, know a Veteran or are related to a Veteran please fill out the Veteran Contact Form at this link: http://gc4vets.org/contact-us/veteran-forms/

Damage Report:

Thanks to Morgane I am getting acupuncture treatments. We have been able to schedule the sessions in the beginning and end of the week. It has really helped to reduce my pain. As my pain level has decreased I have started to notice other parts of my body that have been injured but I just couldn’t feel the injuries because my spinal and head pain have been so intense. It turns out that I have a pulled groin muscle and knee pains that I didn’t notice before, but I am very happy to be feeling those pains since they are far less intense then the pain that I normally feel. If I’m not careful I might find myself getting spoiled.

As Morgane has come onboard I have benefited greatly from her support and assistance. She drives me to my appointments, assists me with all my record keeping, scheduling, meetings, note taking, and so many functions that I have come to lean on her heavily. Having her by my side has really helped to reduce my nightmares, hyper vigilance and she helps me to stay in the present and not turn into a robot. At times with PTSD I tend to slip into “machine mode” and forget that I have emotions. By having Morgane there with me I am reminded that this world is real. Also when I am with Morgane I am far less prone to battle with issues like suicide or causing myself harm. I am trying to be careful not to rely on her too much. When she is not present I tend to relapse in my symptoms. I am still working on a strategy to cope with my own issues and become self-reliant in those areas. To date I have been unsuccessful in every attempt. I hope Morgane doesn’t get burned out before then, I think she is starting to show signs of PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury just from hanging around me too much. She makes me feel better and I make her get worse. Somewhere in the middle we get a lot done. As the Iraqi’s say “In Sha Allah” or “only by the Grace of God” or “God Willing” however you prefer, that’s how we are operating at this time. As more funding comes in I might have to get an “assistant for Morgane” to “assist her” because she’s so busy assisting me that she has no time for her own needs. It’s a vicious circle but such is life I guess.

Conclusion:

I would like to thank all of you for support. Thanks to all of you in the Veteran Community, thanks to all of you support the Veteran Community, and thanks to all of you reach out, contribute, volunteer, support, and back up GC4Vets in all our endeavors to create a better life for Veterans through Green and Gold Careers. Thank you so much!!!

$5 Million in Grant money for paid internships with NASA and other engineering firms!!! Congresswoman Speier’s Career Event Nov. 9th over 1,000 registered applicants!!! Don’t forget to register!!!

Short Announcements For Those On The Go:

• Had a Conference Call with the White House. It is imperative that the JOBS BILL, in Congress, pass in order for GC4Vets to continue effective operations and negotiations with our partner companies. Remember that the jobs created by the bill will help to reduce the Governments electric bill as well. Example: If the Government spends $1 Billion on electricity then the jobs created in Smart Grid, Window film, and LED lighting will reduce that bill by 40%. That means a savings of $400 Million, which reduces the TAX burden on Americans!!! So let’s get behind it Vets!!!

• The Engineering Internship Program has been saved and now there is $5 Million added to the program to create Engineering Internships with companies like NASA please read details below to find out more.

• Congresswoman Speier’s event is going to be a great turnout. Over 1,000 registered applicants. Please register today here is the link.

• Also be advised THERE IS NO FREE LUNCH!!! Due to my error in reporting, I mistook that the lunch is free for volunteers who assist with the event set up. But I will have some pizza’s there at the Veteran tables.

Detailed Announcements For Those Who Have The Time:

• Thanks to the folks at San Mateo County for rescuing these great programs for Veterans. My hat goes off to men like Mike Curran and Erik Muckel who work hard to make sure that all Americans benefit from these opportunities as they are made available. Good job guys, keep it up!!! And thanks to all the Veterans who showed interest and signed up at the last minute!!!

• We have some great successes so far with our programs. The Cisco Project is well under way with Cisco holding very strong on their commitment to hire 1,000 Veterans. I met with the CDO yesterday and Cisco is looking good to hire. We are meeting again this week to discuss it further.

• Cisco will be a huge asset in the future as the Smart Grid starts to come online. The Smart Grid works with the same principle as cell phones. Cell phone networks can really only handle maybe 10% of the calls from customers. If everyone gets on their phones at the same time then the line would shut down. Cell phones take advantage of the time that people are NOT talking and shares that time with people who are. Smart Grid works the same way, it shares energy with people who are using it and shuts it down for those who are away from their homes or who turn off their TV’s. Right now the Grid is ALWAYS ON in every home whether you’re home or not. The electricity to your plug outlet is still there 24/7. This is a HUGE waste of energy. If that wall socket could be shut down since it’s not being used that energy could go to a wall socket in another home or office that is being used. And unlike cell phones when emergencies happen and you can’t call out because the line is overloaded with callers, Smart Grid will actually be more efficient since during emergencies the standard procedure is to shut off your power, shut off your water, and shut off your gas to prevent injuries. Smart Grid can take advantage of this to send power to where it is needed the most, like Hospitals.

• We have Bauer’s IT that will soon be training Veterans to upgrade class C licenses to class B with passenger certification. They will also be hiring management, mechanics, IT, and other positions.

• We have more contractors now for window film training and jobs. I will keep you updated as to how that project is coming along. Also we are making some great in-roads to Government Contracts and work on military bases. More to follow on that program as we move along.

Damage Report:

• Thanks to Morgane I am now getting acupuncture treatments, going to my doctors appointments on time and taking my meds. Morgane has also put me on a strict diet and so now I am eating healthier.

• My pain levels were increasing and getting worse but the acupuncture treatments are really helping to take pressure off of my spine. I still feel pain but now it is more of a level 4 where as before acupuncture it was a level 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. When I had a spinal tap at the VA hospital some months ago the pain from the spinal tap was a level 6. At the time that I had the spinal tap my pain was an 8 with 10 being what my head felt like after getting blown up. The spinal tap actually felt good because it helped me by giving me pain in another spot of my body. The Doctor thought that was a bad sign though. The Marines have a saying: “pain is weakness leaving the body” ooh rah!!!

• The financial status of GC4Vets is in critical right now. I am doing my best with what I have and I am supporting two outstanding assistants as well. With their help my work has tripled in productivity. At the same time my expenses have also increased by the same. At this point there is too much at stake and I am in too deep to pull out now. I will continue my efforts until the mission is accomplished, no matter what the cost. If anyone can help with donations then please do so, your assistance gladly received at this time. I know times are tough and if you cannot donate to GC4Vets then if you could please recommend us to any groups or friends who would like to support what I am doing here at GC4Vets. The donations are tax deductible. Thanks

Conclusion:

Thanks again to all the parties involved who help to sustain my efforts and who keep the mission ongoing. Thanks especially to The Mission Continues, Project Hired, and Swords to Plowshares. Thank you to all those who voice support, pray, and provide guidance or counsel which has been instrumental in my achievements up to this point. Thank you to all of you.

Sincerely,

Jarom Vahai

Short Announcements For Those On The Go:

There is a San Mateo County program that received grant money of half a million dollars. That program is for 35 Veterans to be trained up in engineering math and then put through a paid internship with NASA. For more details read the article below.

Congresswoman Speier is having a Career Fair at the South San Francisco Convention Center. Lunch is FREE for Veterans. Also tables are available for employers for free as well. The Fair is on November 9th and runs from 10am to 2pm. If you plan to attend please RSVP on this site or Congresswoman Speier’s site. Thanks

Project Hired is having a Gala Event this Thursday evening. I will be in attendance at the event from 5:30pm to 9:30pm. At this event awards will be given to some of the most Veteran friendly corporations in the Silicon Valley. Here is the link to the event!

Detailed Announcements For Those Who Have The Time:

The program with NASA and Veterans is a special program that will help Veterans getting out or who have real world experience. Veterans can go to the county to learn “engineering mathematics” and then can go into a paid internship program with NASA. If NASA likes them then they stay on and receive salary increases, if they do not make the cut then they will have more experience to add to their resumes. The GI Bill can be used and these classes will cover the GI Bill requirements. This program is designed to be a short cut program to fast-track Veterans who have the aptitude and do not need to go through all the courses in college. If you are interested or know anyone who is interested please email me ASAP. This program has a deadline to get the Veterans or else the funding “goes away!!!” Contact me right away!!!

There are many programs that have funding from the government and from other sources. Like the NASA program they all can “go away!!!” These programs are “use it or lose it” programs. Also for companies who make the effort to hire Veterans, if they don’t find enough Veterans who are interested in being hired the companies can document their attempt and hire non Veterans and “still get the tax credits” as if though they did hire Veterans. It is imperative that Veterans contact me, fill out my Veteran Contact Form under my “Mission” tab, and stand up to be recognized. If Veterans do not stand up and claim these benefits, they will expire and go away.

Currently the problem of GC4Vets is not getting jobs for Veterans. Currently the problem is not having enough Veterans to bring to the companies. As we all know, time is money and money is time. For companies to attempt to hire one or two Veterans here and there, means that company is paying money to do outreach. One of the objectives of GC4Vets is to do that outreach “for free,” so that companies can focus on doing what they already have a budget to do; which is HIRE VETERANS!!! I have put many companies on hold until I am able to reach a certain number of Veterans in the recruiting pool. After my target is reached then I can proceed to have the Veterans screened, filtered, and placed in careers that they can be happy in. So right now it is vital that Veterans fill out my contact form and then spread the word to other Veterans to get on the list!!! Here is the link to the form

A new addition to the site is the Wall Of Fame. This addition is to recognize the Veterans who got hired on with the companies that we are working with. Also to recognize the companies that are “the most Veteran friendly!!!” I will be adding more names and more companies to the Wall Of Fame, once I feel that Veterans are hired on a permanent status and that they are happy with their new careers. There are still some companies that I am waiting on adding to the Wall as there are still details that need to be addressed before doing so. Here is the link.

Damage Report:

I have attended some great events recently and I have the honor of meeting many great Veterans and Veteran supporters. As I have attended some events I have taken dates with me and one date made the comment that I stirred up a lot of attention with other Veterans; my response to her was “all the people who know me also know that I would die for them” and although I wouldn’t volunteer anyone to do the same for me, I feel that many if not all of the Veterans that I have met have the same way of thinking. This line of thinking has also been the cause of much of my suffering, putting myself last and my Veterans needs first. I don’t need to explain this to a Veteran but for those who don’t understand, it is the force that drives us all in our missions.

Thanks to my assistant Morgane doing such a wonderful job I am back on my meds, going to my doctors appointments, and getting benched when I start to mess up in the game. Morgane has really improved my performance and effectiveness in all that I have accomplished so far. She has been the best Traumatic Brain Injury Counter Measure and because of her I am not blowing off any of my current employers and meetings. If anyone would like to get a hold of me and remind me of something that I have forgotten please email Morgane at morgane@gc4vets.org she will make sure that I don’t forget it. She also manages my calendar completely. She knows my abilities best and so she schedules all meetings, if I am able to do it. Many times I double book and triple book and I mess up all my appointments but Morgane will make sure that those mistakes don’t happen.

Conclusion:

Thanks again for all of you who support me and have given me the ability to make advancements in my objectives and to conquer territory that is vital to this mission. I will continue my work and my accomplishments will be a memorial to all of your support. Soon there will be a solid system in place to deal with the obstacles of Veterans and employment in the bay area and after that this model can be used to aid Veterans in all major cities and areas of high unemployment. Thanks to all of you.

Sincerely,

Congresswoman Speier is having a Career Fair in November. There will be a special segment for Veterans and the Congresswoman is paying for lunch. It is the perfect opportunity to network as well as apply for jobs.

Detailed Announcements For Those Who Have The Time:

The current state of the situation is that there are more jobs than there are Veterans. Operation Long Arm will continue to move forward. Now that companies are stepping up and hiring Veterans, the next phase of operations is to let the Veterans know who those companies are. I am visiting schools at this point to get in contact with Veterans who are ready to work for these companies. This part of the journey is the most time consuming and resource draining. I can only continue this pace for a short time until I will have to discontinue operations and just go with the Veterans that I make contact with.

Currently I need aircraft mechanics to contact me so that I can place them with Tesla. I also need drivers who have Class B or Class A licenses and especially those who have passenger certification. Any Veteran who fits these criteria should definitely contact me ASAP. These are positions that can be filled immediately.

I am also looking for candidates for Cisco. I need 5 applicants who can go through the process that we have laid out for Cisco. If there are any Veterans who feel that they would be suited for a career with this company please contact me and send me your resumes ASAP.

The process of creating advantages for Veterans and for Companies who hire Veterans is completed and it works. Now the objective is to increase the number of Veterans to see how quickly these systems work. I will keep you updated on the progress of the next objective.

Damage Report:

This past weekend my uncle passed away. I am helping my mom with her travel expenses to go see her brother buried. This has been a very sad moment for me and for all of us. I only have fond memories of him and how he treated me like a prince whenever I visited his home in Tonga. If any of you have a drink please remember to toast one for him. Thanks.

I am trying to move as quickly as possible and yet I cannot move fast enough. If it wasn’t for Morgane I would not be able to continue this any further. I used to think that I was still able to lead a platoon with the skills and experience that I acquired. But, now that Morgane is here I realize just how badly my Traumatic Brain Injury has affected my ability to remember vital and important details. Morgane attends my meetings now so that I don’t miss any more essential details.

It seems that I have bitten off too much and that I am still unable to get my medical issues under control. With Morganes help I am able to at least make one or two appointments but my ability to keep up with the jobs issues and keep up with my Doctor issues are still very much in conflict and Morgane has shown me how much my back injuries, TBI, and PTSD are keeping me from getting more done. If I didn’t have these issues I would be much farther along in my mission but it is also my issues that remind me why I am doing this. I will continue as planned and after November I will start to take better care of myself.

Conclusion:

Thanks to all of you who have helped me and made my work possible. I will never forget all that you have done. Please email Morgane at morgane@gc4vets.org so that she will make sure that your names are mentioned in my thank you list. I would like to keep your names in memorial, especially for those Veterans who benefit from these programs to look back on and be mindful of your help and support.

I have begun Operation Long Arm and I have met with the key players in the outreach phase of my operations.

On October 6, 2011 Project Hired is having a wonderful fundraiser Gala in San Jose. There will be delicious food, silent auctions, excellent speakers, and awards presented to Veterans who have excelled in Project Hired’s programs.

Detailed Announcements For Those Who Have The Time:

I had a conference call with the White House this past week. They are working tirelessly to create jobs for Americans. I am working with them and assisting them to create jobs for Veterans which will also spur the economy and help to create jobs for everyone, not just Veterans. The current Jobs Bill on the table is going to not only help the job market but also help the foreclosure market. Homeowners who are facing problems of losing their homes can expect a bailout from this upcoming Bill. This will sustain the housing market and help Americans to stay in their homes.

Another key announcement about the Jobs Bill is that the money being set aside for Jobs development programs is now available to 501(c)3’s. So groups like Swords To Plowshares and Project Hired can participate in the grants without having to partner with schools or cities. Which means that non profits who are performing excellent service to Veterans can receive funding.

A model is being assembled to take my efforts and cookie cut them throughout the country to produce similar results for Veterans throughout the nation. Also the model that I am constructing will be a model that will be able to duplicated by other groups and not just Veterans. In the hopes that job creation and stimulus can help to bring the nation out of our current economic stress. Once I am completed with Operation Long Arm and have gathered the numbers from my research I will submit a detailed report to the White House so that a more stable model can be created and mandated across the board.

Operation Long Arm is continuing and will be ongoing throughout the Bay Area. The operation will be limited to the Bay Area until funding can be achieved to reach out to military bases throughout the state and country.

As I get closer to the end of my mission to create small-scale models that function to help Veterans get hired, I am very much glad that the journey is almost over. Once I have turned on the various pipelines, the integrity of the system operating at a high level will be the only matter of concern. It is at that phase that I believe the problem will not be if there are enough jobs but instead, if there are enough Veterans to fill those jobs!!!

Damage Report:

I am forcing myself and pushing my limits mentally. Many times the reason why Veterans with the same issues as myself often find it hard to connect with society is because trying to make such connections involves utilizing emotions or communication that can often lead to turning on all emotions. Many times Veterans returning home discover that war makes one have to shut down so many feelings in order to function in high stress or chaos. To turn emotions back on cannot be done one feeling at a time and so the result is that Veterans trying to reconnect struggle with a flood of emotions that are compounded and combined. Anger, Joy, Sadness, Guilt, Happiness, Shame, Sorrow, and the list goes on are not feelings that can be sorted out and sifted through as if though sorting mail. These things take time and dealing with these issues can be very overwhelming without professional help or medications or both in combination. Many times Veterans who don’t get help find themselves just picking the strongest emotion out of them all, which is often Anger, Rage, or Sorrow. This can lead to many problems like self-medication with illegal drugs, self-mutilation, and/or suicide. The answer is for Veterans to go to the VA and talk about them with a counselor or to share their feelings with another Veteran. So after my outreach is complete I will begin to refocus on my counseling sessions with the VA. And as I perform outreach I will remind all Veterans I encounter to do the same.

Financially the burdens of doing this work are killing me and really slowing me down. I still have loans that I have to repay which I used to finance my operations up to this point. I am not the only Veteran who has given up personal time, money, and made sacrifices. There are many like me, for instance: Jack Jacoby, Randolph Martinez, James Small, Ryan Berg, Chris Rodriguez, Chris Loverro, just to name a few. We are all giving up time, money, financial opportunities, not taking care of ourselves, and even losing out on schooling to help our fellow Veterans. We are not getting paid to do this. Why do we do this? Because we all see that the vision that we all share is more important than the cost or sacrifice. That vision is to create a channel, a pipeline, a better path, to prepare a way for Veterans who are getting out of the military to prosper and not have to go through the same issues, problems, and obstacles that we all had to face when getting out. We want to provide leadership and direction so that men and women who are getting out of the service can get easily accessible support and services so that they don’t struggle with PTSD, TBI, suicide, drug abuse, poverty, homelessness, disabilities and many more problems which can be far too great to overcome alone. My part in this vision is to help those Veterans get great careers. To get those Vets to work with other Vets and to get the support they need not just financially, but socially and mentally as well.

Conclusion:

Thanks to groups like Swords to Plowshares, The Mission Continues, Project Hired, and to the many supporters who help me on a continual basis. I hope to produce results that will show you all that your prayers, advice, counsel, and hugs were not in vain. Also a special thanks to A Note of Thanks, they are a great organization doing some great things for Veterans through music and song. If you would like to know more here is there link.

Thanks Again. Sincerely,

GC4Vets is now moving into an outreach phase to gather as many Veterans as possible for the careers that have been opened through the various talks and meetings with Bay Area companies!!!

Short Announcements For Those On The Go:

There is a great event, taking place, this Sunday September 11, 2011 in Atherton at the Polo Club. Please see the events tab for details.

Various stages of the pipelines have been tested and proven with the companies that have been listed on GC4Vets website.

GC4Vets will conduct decisive operations to muster as many Veterans from colleges, universities, and perspective Veterans from military bases. While funding issues still exist and there aren’t adequate funds to carry out the mission, I am continuing with the operation regardless, because it has to be done. Operation Long Arm will go as planned starting this Monday and it will continue until the mission is accomplished or until it can no longer continue and meets complete failure.

Detailed Announcements For Those Who Have The Time:

Operation Long Arm is commencing, starting this Monday. There is not enough funding, so that means that I will just have to be very creative in my operations and cunning in my methods. As a Sergeant I will be truly tested in my abilities to “beg, borrow, or steal” in order to accomplish the mission. Foraging will most likely be a common task in between operations.

The goal of Operation Long Arm will be to gather 2,200 Veterans for career placement by a process of selective screening and qualifying. I will meet with as many Veterans face-to-face and proceed to send them through the pipelines that have been established. So far small numbers have gone through individual pipelines laid in place and so the stress of the systems has been minimal.

It is the hope of GC4Vets to place 1,000 Veterans in meaningful careers and employment before the funds required for such a mission become too exhausted to continue effective operations. To date the expenses have reached $20,000 of my own personal savings and funds to date and have only shown 8 careers created. This number was kept to a minimum to measure the effectiveness of my efforts. Now that a comfort level has been reached with the system I feel that it is time to achieve a goal of 1,000 careers created which will mean that an average of $20 was spent on each Veteran. This is my goal before the year is complete.

Damage Report:

After careful examination of my issues I realize that despite the assistance from my Executive Assistant I am unable to maintain the pace that I am running at for much longer. Her analysis of my personal problems and finances has shown me that I cannot do the work of 10 people without paying the price out of pocket, and without paying the price of self-neglect. I mask a lot of my shortcomings and the adrenaline rush of the urgency of my mission helps me to ignore my body and mind. But, the mission is in danger if I continue to push my limits, which aren’t that high anymore and no where near as high as previous to my injuries.

The battle tempo at this point in time is very intense. While money issues constantly exist, the issues of PTSD, TBI, and Pain are just as intense now as they were when I first was medically retired from the Marines. The difference now is that I have grown accustomed to many of my injuries, found ways to cope with them in private, and have a support group in place to catch me when I am on the verge of losing control of everything. If only I didn’t have these impediments I feel that I would really take off. But, much of my personal issues help me to remain humble and mindful of the Veterans who also suffer the same and who are out there depending on me. I know what they are going through and that helps me to never say die. In fact I would rather die than give in at this point. So I will continue with the operation, by continuing Operation Long Arm.

Conclusion:

I posted a list of thank you’s on my website. The list is not completed yet. I am still having Noel add names to the list. She will add them slowly until all the names can show and scroll without having glitches and issues. It is my way of trying to acknowledge those who have contributed to the battle and have made an impact on my operations and me. Thanks to you all. I wish I could be more personable and able to connect with all of you to express my gratitude. Now that my assistant is working with me she has stressed a “thank you” card campaign. It is an expense that I feel is worth it. I can just skip meals (it’s good for my weight loss anyway). Thank you to all of you, I appreciate your help, assistance, counsel and contributions.

Sincerely,

Here’s my interview with 94.5 KBAY Radio on the Sam Van Zandt Show done by Sandy Stec!!!

Bauer’s IT Limo Buses showed up at the War Memorial and interviewed Veterans from 6pm to 8pm!!! They interviewed everyone who showed up and I am following up with them. They liked 3 Veterans and we will find out if they make the cut or not.

I will be having an SFPD job event at the Craig Newmark VRC at the War Memorial/Herbst Theater soon!!! I will make the announcement after the planning is complete.

Don’t forget to check out the “events” tab to find out where the 9-11 Veterans Event at the Polo Club in Atherton is taking place. I will definitely be there.

Detailed Announcements for those who have the time:

Bauer’s IT really stepped up to the plate this past Tuesday!!! They showed up at the VRC and interviewed all the Vets. Bauer’s IT will hire any Veteran with a B Class license with a passenger certification. 30 Slots are open to be hired.

I have a meeting with Cisco on September 9, 2011. We will be discussing two issues. The first is mentorship programs that can help Veterans qualify for internships out of college. The second is jobs and job placement. For Veterans who are certified or who meet the requirements for Cisco, job placement can be almost immediate. We will set up a screening process and a process to assist Cisco with processing applications and resume’s so that Cisco does not have to assume the bulk of the cost and labor.

I had a conference call with the White House this week. We discussed the budget and the various programs that are on the chopping block and the tax situation. Right now the situation in Washington DC is very tense and the gridlock in Congress is becoming a volatile situation. Each side is fighting to defend the funding for projects that are in need while at the same time trying to defuse the explosive situation of cutbacks and raising taxes. The President is doing his best to work with both sides of the aisle, while being mindful of the Americans who are suffering in the meantime. While I did not vote for Obama the first time, I have to say that I have really changed my opinion of him. He has mortally wounded Al Qaida by killing almost ALL of the leadership to include: Osama Bin Laden and Zawahiri, and it is not long after one leader is dead that a new one is chosen and soon after killed as well. I feel that Obama’s leadership as Commander in Chief andprotector of the safety of the American people has been demonstrated time and time again. I take my hat off to him for his valiant efforts to destroy our enemies and for his strong support for Veterans.

Damage Report:

Items still needed for those who would like to donate, include:

1. Mileage plus miles for donation, so that GC4Vets can launch a major outreach program to all the bases in CA and Hawaii.

2. A reliable vehicle with good gas mileage. Currently the cost of fuel in my SUV is approximately $600-$800 per month. Also my vehicle has high miles and is developing problems.

3. Interest free loans or low interest loans and any donations that can help to shoulder the cost of the new outreach program that I am putting in place.

My assistant has started this week and while it has been great to have her I am also finding out just how much I am NOT getting done or following up on. She has helped me to be on time for many of my appointments, helped me to sort through my bills/mail to get my personal life in order, and she has helped me to realize all the details that I have missed/forgotten in my work that has been hindering me a great deal. From feedback from others I estimated that I was failing in 50% of what I do. Now that my assistant has shown up I realize that I am failing in 90% of what I do, due to Traumatic Brain Injury, Pain, and PTSD. It is an eye opening and sobering experience to face the facts. Since I put her through hell all week I am letting her have a 4 day weekend so that she will want to come back to work for me.

Conclusion:

There are some changes to GC4Vets Website which include:

-New Jobs Tab

-Update to the Mission Statement

-Update to the “in the News” Tab which now includes the 94.5 KBAY interview

Thank you, to all the supporters of GC4Vets, Swords To Plowshares, Project Hired and The Mission Continues. By supporting our groups and helping us with our missions hundreds and thousands of Veterans are getting aid, employment, and assistance.

Sincerely,

• Sat down in a meeting with Cisco this past week and discussed Veteran employment. Swords to Plowshares, Project Hired and other groups will get involved to prep Veterans and screen for Cisco. Currently the number will start at 5 Veterans to see how well the pipeline arrangement works. After the 5 Veterans are cleared and the bugs worked out, we will proceed to push Veterans through the pipeline until Cisco’s numbers have been met.

• Next Tuesday at 6pm Bauer’s IT will have 5 staff members at the Veterans War Memorial VRC in room 205. If you are a Veteran who has a class B drivers license chances are you will most likely be hired on the spot. There will be training provided to upgrade C class licenses to B class by Bauer’s IT.

• We are still evaluating Clear Wall and their operations. There are some issues to work through but eventually we will have an arrangement where Veterans can be trained up and paid according to the market value of their skills.

• Also as a reminder there is a Polo Event in Atherton on September 11th. It will be quite a fundraiser. The event is posted on my “events” tab; please take a look at it.

• If you know any returning Veterans who were Grunts, Snipers, SF, Recon, SEAL or specially trained individuals who HAVE NOT filed their VA claims. Please refer them to me ASAP before they file claims. I have several slots opening up with SFPD. These are not Green Jobs but they are high paying jobs that are one of the objectives of GC4Vets, to place Vets in careers.

Detailed Announcements for those who have time:

• This is a summary of what I set out to accomplish in the beginning and what has been accomplished to date:

Objectives:

1. I set out to set up training and employment in the electric car industry, preferably to get Veterans employed at Tesla Motors.

2. I set out to address and tackle the issue of the Veterans Employment Tax Credit.

3. I set out to create a “green movement” which would create jobs for Veterans.

4. I set out to create “pipelines” and to streamline the process of connecting with Veterans and then creating a bridge to meaningful careers that pay median income salary and wages; for the Bay Area this is between $50K & $60K.

Status of current objectives:

1. Tesla has hired 5 Veterans and Skyline has started a course AUTO 511 but this mission is “still in progress”. There is still much work to be done to take Tesla to the next level and for Skyline to develop their Electric Auto Program.

2. President Obama has tackled the Veteran Employment Tax Credit. Without his assistance the Veterans who are getting out of the military now will have employers eager to find, recruit, and hire them.

3. Currently, I am working with Bauer’s IT. They are part of the “green” industry with biodiesel, hybrid and electric buses that are environmentally friendly. They will be picking up 5 Veterans next week. I am also working with Clear Wall and the two Veterans that they just recently hired. Clear Wall performs energy saving retro fits for commercial and government buildings. This is a green industry job that pays above median income salary and wages.

4. And now we are working with Cisco to secure jobs. We are still watching Clear Wall closely to see how the 3 Veterans hired over there are working out.

5. The “pipelines” that I am creating are still in progress. They are nearly complete. When I am finished with the assembly of my process, Veterans will be able to get out of the military, go to a nearby college, Veteran Organization or to the VA and enter the pipeline from that initial visit. After they are contacted, the Veteran applies for benefits with the VA, applies for unemployment with the EDD, gets training & job opportunities from Swords to Plowshares & Project Hired, and finally is connected to a career with a reputable company that pays median income wages or better.

• Clear Wall has hired 3 Veterans and I took some time to visit them this past Friday and watch them in action. Currently they are doing very well and are performing all the aspects of the job. The next steps are to have them certified so they can graduate from minimum wage to piece rate. The average experienced employee can film 600 to 1,000 square feet of glass per day. So far the Veterans hired have only been on the job for 3 weeks and are filming 300 square feet of glass per day. It will only be a matter of time before they are up to the speed of an experienced installer.

Damage Report:

• Here is a short list of items that GC4Vets is currently in need of assistance for.

1. Mileage Plus Miles donations

2. A car that no one is using or needs and has enough miles left on the engine, for donation.

3. Access to interest free or low interest loans to conduct business and pay for expenses.

• So far operations have been mostly on the company and employer side. The next step is outreach. This next step will require me to do some extensive traveling by airline to extend the outreach to areas of high concentration of Veterans such as San Diego and Hawaii. This will be expensive and time consuming, but it will be necessary in order to attract and recruit the highest quality talent exiting the military and catching them at the right time and right circumstances. Veterans exiting the military from these regions will not be in so much of a shock with the Bay Area’s living expenses and so I feel they will be the most likely to adapt to the economic environment.

• My assistant couldn’t start this week but she will start up this upcoming Monday. Once she starts I can again focus on my health but for now I am still working on a plan to get my treatments, medication and therapy.

• On occasion my eyes seem red and watery and much of it is due to the moments when I am in the most pain. Sometimes it’s discouraging to see an 80-year-old man passing me up on the sidewalk and not even break a sweat. And then I am sweating through my clothes limping along with my cane because the pain makes my heart rate go up every time I walk. I miss running and those days of not having back pain. I think it’s a curse because I used to scoff at back pain commercials, thinking it was all a gimmick to sell gadgets. Now, I have a new found compassion and empathy for anyone who even mentions the phrase back pain.

• I still struggle with PTSD and TBI and its impact on my work is invisible to many but very apparent to me and those who work with me; and regretfully those who try to work with me. Not too long ago I had a girlfriend whose daughter would call me Dada. It was interesting how no matter how tired I was or how much pain I was in I could instantly turn it off and just become singly focused on the baby and her little world. While I have forgotten much of how this emotion feels like I am reminded now and again between nightmares when I have little dreams about her. In my dreams I miss her so much and the little family I had with her and her mother. When I wake up I feel like a robot again and I press on with my mission and my objectives. Besides the mother was an untrustworthy gold digger anyway. And I say that not in anger but like I an observer looking through a glass window and just noticing what is on the other side.

Conclusion:

• Thanks to The Mission Continues, Swords to Plowshares, & Project Hired once again for providing me with resources, offices and support as I fight onward in obtaining jobs for Veterans. When I am done with this or I feel there is sufficient support then I will move on to the next phase of the mission which is to secure houses for Veterans to own and small businesses. It is my belief that by the time we move to phase 3 the jobs created, housing market stimulated, and small business loans/operations will create a certainty and assurance that the economy can and will be stabilized by the Veteran force that is currently in motion.

Thanks to all of you who have supported me, continue to support me and carry me on your shoulders. Without all the helping hands involved in this movement, none of this could have been made possible.

Sincerely,

Jarom Vahai
